Upgrade allows continued operation of Ringhals units

Ringhals 3 and 4 - 48Some SEK900 million ($107 million) will be invested in installing independent core cooling systems at units 3 and 4 of the Ringhals nuclear power plant in Sweden. The legally-required safety upgrade will enable the two reactors to continue operating beyond 2020.


SCE&G proposes gas, solar for Summer replacement

Summer_2_final_ring_June_2017_(SCEG)_48South Carolina Electric & Gas Company has unveiled a proposal that would see some of the capacity that should have been provided by the VC Summer nuclear power plant project replaced with gas and solar generation. The company's shareholders would absorb the net construction costs of the abandoned nuclear project.


IAEA knows more about Iran thanks to JCPOA

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action has led to a significant reduction in Iran's nuclear activities while enabling the International Atomic Energy Agency to increase its knowledge of the country's nuclear programme, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said in a speech at Harvard University.

US test reactor resumes operations

The Transient Reactor Test Facility, used to test nuclear fuels and materials under extreme conditions, had not operated since being shut down in 1994.

This is the Hualong One design that General Nuclear Services - a subsidiary of EDF and China General Nuclear - proposes to use at a prospective new nuclear power plant in England.


Demolition of chimney at Italian plant completed

Garigliano - post chimney demolition - 48The dismantling of the central chimney at the shutdown Garigliano nuclear power plant in Italy was completed yesterday, Societa Gestione Impianti Nucleari SpA announced. Preparations to demolish the 95-meter-high chimney began in March 2014.


Leningrad II-2 reactor vessel arrives at construction site

Leningrad II 2 RPV transport - 48The reactor vessel for unit 2 of the Leningrad Phase II nuclear power plant was delivered to the construction site in Sosnovy Bor in western Russia yesterday. The cargo was delivered from the Izhorskiye Zavody manufacturing plant within ten days, according to a statement today by Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom.


Russia and Philippines agree to nuclear cooperation

Russia-Philippines - November 2017 - 48Russia is to assist the Philippines in developing national policies for the development of nuclear energy through a memorandum of cooperation signed on 13 November. The cooperation will include feasibility studies on the construction of small modular reactors.
