World Nuclear Association announces new Board members

World Nuclear Association is pleased to announce new appointments to our Board of Management, which met Tuesday 14 April in Monaco on the occasion of our World Nuclear Fuel Cycle Conference 2026.

Johan Svenningsson, Country Chairman and CEO Uniper Sweden, will take over the position of Chairman of World Nuclear Association, while H.E. Mohamed Al Hammadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Nuclear Energy Company, will become the Vice-Chairman.

Speaking about the appointment, incoming Chairman, Johan Svenningsson said: "I am honoured and proud to start my position as Chairman of the Board of Directors for World Nuclear Association. The importance of nuclear for the world to ensure energy security and stable supply of fossil free electricity is even more important today when we see the impacts of climate change and geopolitical uncertainty"

Sama Bilbao y León, Director general of World Nuclear Association, said of the appointment: “Johan brings deep insight and experience to the role of Chairman, having been an active and valued member of our Board for some years. I also want to thank Mohamed for his significant and impactful contributions as Chairman and for his continued engagement as ViceChairman. Finally, I want to welcome our new and reelected Board members as the Association gears up to help the global nuclear industry to move from ambition to action.”

The following Board members have been re-elected to serve a further two-year term: Malcolm Critchley, Mohamed Saad Dwiddar, Nicole Holmes, Mingang Huang, Hitoshi Mizuta, Teppei Narita, Xianfeng Wang, and Mingguang Zheng.

Four new Board members have also been elected: Ian Edwards, President and CEO of AtkinsRéalis, Mervyn Fischer CEO of Allweld Nuclear & Industrial, Egor Kvyatkovskiy, and DG of Rosatom International Network. While Vincent Niebel, Deputy Director of the Nuclear Fuel Division, EDF, replaces Jean-Michel Quilichini.

The rest of the Board of Management of World Nuclear Association is comprised of Amir Adnani, George Borovas, Tim Gitzel, Bryan Hanson, Nicolas Maes, In-Sik Park, Boris Schucht, Meirzhan Yussupov, Liudmila Zalimskaya and Bohdan Zronek.
