Egypt - World Nuclear Performance Report

Four VVER-1200 units are under construction in Egypt at
El Dabaa, on the north Mediterranean coast, 140 km west
of Alexandria.

In November 2015 an intergovernmental agreement was signed with Russia to build and operate the four reactors, including fuel supply, used fuel management, training and development of regulatory infrastructure.

Construction of El Dabaa 1 commenced in July 2022, followed by unit 2 in November 2022, unit 3 in May 2023, and unit 4 in January 2024. Egypt's aim is for 9% of electricity to be generated
by nuclear by 2030, which would be achieved by the operation of the first two units by that time, directly displacing oil and gas.
