World Nuclear Association at the IAEA 69th General Conference

Updated Tuesday, 16 September 2025

World Nuclear Association is proud to be present at the 69th IAEA General Conference in Vienna from 15–19 September, bringing the voice of the global nuclear industry to this vital gathering of policymakers, regulators, and international stakeholders.

“The General Conference is where the representatives for all the Governments of the IAEA come together. So it’s a unique opportunity for World Nuclear Association, representing the global nuclear industry, to come and speak with all the policy makers from everywhere in the world,”

said Sama Bilbao y León, Director General of World Nuclear Association.

Throughout the week, we will engage with IAEA countries and regulators, putting forward the global view from the nuclear industry, as well as listening to each country’s updated policy goals.  We will focus on sharing lessons learnt on how to align energy policies with industrial strategies, strengthen supply chains, and build the skilled workforce needed to accelerate deployment of new nuclear technologies – all themes that were central to our recent World Nuclear Symposium

Side Events

To support this mission, World Nuclear Association is hosting two side events:

- Effective Leadership in a Rapidly Changing Nuclear Industry on Tuesday

These sessions will bring together experts and decision-makers to explore solutions for some of the most pressing challenges facing the nuclear sector—from ensuring safe and secure transport of radioactive materials, to fostering the next generation of leadership in an evolving industry.

Driving Global Dialogue

As Sama Bilbao y León emphasized:

“It’s very important to engage with all IAEA countries at this conference and let them know the work that we are doing – what we are doing with financiers, with large energy users, and how the lessons learnt we have gathered from across the nuclear energy industry can help accelerate new nuclear deployment.”

World Nuclear Association looks forward to constructive discussions and collaboration at this year’s General Conference—working together to build a sustainable, equitable, and secure energy future.

Looking Ahead

Our presence at the IAEA General Conference is just the beginning of a busy season of international engagement. In the coming weeks, World Nuclear Association will:

- Participate in New York Climate Week, underlining nuclear energy’s essential role in achieving net zero in a timely, cost-effective and equitable way.

- Join World Atomic Week in Moscow, one of the largest exhibitions of the global nuclear industry.

- Take part in Africa Energy Week, engaging with countries eager to expand clean energy options and advance new nuclear programmes.

Through these major platforms, World Nuclear Association ensures that the voice of the nuclear industry is heard—and that nuclear energy is recognized as essential for the clean energy transition.
