Global nuclear electricity generation rose to 2602 TWh in 2023, up from 2544 TWh in 2022, providing 9% of the world’s electricity—second only to hydropower among clean energy sources.
Representatives of the nuclear industry presented an industry statement to H.E. Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Italy, at an event held alongside the G7 Ministerial Meeting on Climate, Energy and Environment in Turin, Italy. The statement is a consolidated declaration, by the international nuclear energy associations, calling for the continued support of the G7 countries for nuclear energy, including on efforts to secure necessary financing avenues for new nuclear projects. |
In Brussels at the Nuclear Energy Summit 2024, hosted by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Belgium government, World Nuclear Association, along with national and regional nuclear industry associations (Canadian Nuclear Association, Japan Atomic Industrial Forum, Korea Atomic Industrial Forum, Nuclear Energy Institute, nucleareurope, and Nuclear Industry Association) have issued an Industry Statement. The statement sets out the global nuclear industry’s commitment to supporting government objectives to expand nuclear energy capacity worldwide to achieve climate and energy security goals.
To mark International Women’s Day (IWD), World Nuclear Association has signed an agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) by which the Association will help the IAEA to find suitable industry internship opportunities for women undertaking the Marie Sklodowska Curie and Lise Meitner fellowship programmes.

A historic Ministerial Declaration signed today at the COP28 UN climate change conference in Dubai by more than twenty countries sets a clear goal of tripling global nuclear energy capacity by 2050.
