About Manila

Manila, the capital of the Philippines, is a vibrant city blending Spanish colonial heritage, Asian traditions, and modern Filipino culture. It’s located on the eastern shore of Manila Bay on Luzon Island and serves as the country’s political, cultural, and economic hub.

Here’s an overview of Manila and its main attractions:

Intramuros (The Walled City)

The historic heart of Manila, built during the Spanish colonial period. Walk along Fort Santiago, San Agustin Church, and Casa Manila Museum. Cobblestone streets and horse-drawn kalesas make it feel like a trip back in time.

Rizal Park (Luneta)

A massive public park dedicated to Dr. José Rizal, the Philippine national hero. Ideal for leisurely walks, picnics, and learning about Philippine history.

Manila Cathedral

A stunning Roman Catholic Basilica inside Intramuros. Known for its beautiful architecture and historical significance — it has been rebuilt several times due to wars and earthquakes.

National Museum Complex

Includes the National Museum of Fine Arts, Anthropology, and Natural History. Houses treasures like Juan Luna’s Spoliarium and pre-colonial artifacts.

Binondo (Chinatown)

The oldest Chinatown in the world, established in 1594. Famous for authentic Chinese-Filipino food — try hopia, dumplings, and pancit. Great for food tours and cultural walks.

Quiapo Church

Home to the Black Nazarene, a centuries-old statue believed to have miraculous powers. The surrounding market is a vibrant place to buy local goods, herbs, and street food.
