General Entry

Many countries have visa-free agreements with the Philippines for short tourist or business stays but some foreign nationals require visas – check with your own country's travel advice to the Philippines. All citizens of ASEAN member countries can enter the Philippines visa-free. Many other nationals can enter visa-free for up to 30 days provided they meet the following basic requirements:

• Valid Passport: Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay 
• Return/Onward Ticket: Confirmed tickets for return or onward journey 
• Sufficient Funds: Proof of financial capacity for your stay 
• Registration to eTravel portal:  E-Travel Philippines is an online system by Philippine government agencies that replaces manual arrival and departure cards. Travelers can register and submit travel details online before their flight for a smoother, faster experience. Register within 72 hours of your flight. Getting to the city centre 

Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (IATA: MNL also known as Manila International Airport) is about 7–10 km south of the city centre, but the trip can take anywhere from 20 minutes to over 1 hour, depending on traffic and your destination. 

Ride-Hailing App: Grab is Southeast Asia’s Uber equivalent; available via mobile app. Each NAIA terminal has a Grab pick-up area — usually just outside arrivals, with clear signage. 

Airport Taxis: Always ask for an official taxi from the authorized stand — don’t accept offers from touts inside the terminal. Coupon Taxis or Metered Taxis are yellow with “Coupon” markings. 

Travel Tips, Warnings & Practical Advice 

• Vaccinations: Hepatitis A and Typhoid vaccines are recommended for most travellers, and routine vaccinations (e.g. diphtheria, tetanus, and polio) should up to date. Consult a healthcare professional or travel clinic at least a month before your trip to determine which vaccines you need.
• Weather: May is one of the hottest months in Manila, with temperatures averaging 26°C–34°C (79°F–93°F). Humidity levels can be very high.
• Cash & payments: Small local vendors may only take cash. 
• Electricity / plugs: The standard voltage is 220 V, 60 Hz. Outlets are usually types A, B, or C (two flat or round pins).
• Language: English is widely spoken (especially in urban areas). 
• Water: Tap water in Manila is not reliably safe to drink. Use bottled water. 
• Visas / arrival: See above.
• Emergency / hospital: Know the location of quality hospitals or clinics in your area; travel insurance with medical coverage is strongly recommended.
